The Company was founded in 1950 by three partners. Francesco Piccioni,Icilio Cantoni and the Tuscan glass master Mario Marzini to produce glassware for domestic use. A wholly manual production was started in a plant of around 2000 square meters.

The Company grew quickly, enjoying good success in the market and soon came to employ some 700 workers.

Between the mid Fifties and Sixties and as a result of a large financial investment, the production system was transformed from manual to semi-automatic and later on to a complete fully automatic system.

The Company was by now producing a very large range of products for domestic use such as lasses, tumblers, jugs, beer mugs, storage jars etc.

In 1987 F.Piccioni acquired the share holding of his other partners and became sole proprietor.

During the Nineties the company embarked on a new phase of investment in the latest industrial equipment and acquired the company Decover. The surface of the plant thereby increased from 12,000 square meters to the current 52,000 square meters.

These developments together with the know-how of modern technologies enabled Vetreria di Borgonovo to grow rapidly and in a short period of some three years the production output was doubled.

The company is constantly in a process of updating all parts of production and the training of personnel.

Despite the large scale of production Borgonovo has always sought to maintain a high standard of quality in order to meet and satisfy the demands of it’s customers.

Technology

The production area has two very modern kilns. One with a capacity of producing 110 tons of glass per day and the other some 60 tons.

These two kilns feed nine production lines. The factory produces around 45,000 tons of glass per year.

This equates to some 130 million pieces per year spread over 500 different shapes and sizes. The entire production is manufactured using one type of glass which is obtained from the fusion of siliceous sand with the addition of fluxes, bleaches and refiners.

The glass produced fully responds to new european laws and to the procedures for the respect of the environment.

The glass is of extra white sodic-calcic type (lead free) and the products are created through phases of pressing and press-blowing.

Products

The production of Vetreria di Borgonovo is classified according to three broad categories: Barware, Tableware and Home/Industry jars.

It’s also possible the production of special articles used for promotion campaigns and gifts. In addiction, careful attention is paid to wrapping and packaging of the products, and our packaging is devised bearing in mind the double needs of reliability and creativity.

It’s also possible the production of special articles used for promotion campaigns and gifts. In addiction, careful attention is paid to wrapping and packaging of the products, and our packaging is devised bearing in mind the double needs of reliability and creativity.

Furthermore, the majority of the production of Vetreria di Borgonovo is conceived and manufactured to meet the requirements of the Ho.Re.Ca. segment. The main characteristics of Borgonovo products are their strengths to withstand daily and constant usage of many months and years and also of course washing cycles.

Present and immediate future

Vetreria di Borgonovo is continuing with the policy of investments and technological innovation. After the 2007 considerable effort, when the first blown-glass production line was installed, the Company, being aware of the market trends, has acquired, in June 2010, a new one, to implement the same category of items.

This investment should allow the Company both more punctual deliveries of existing items and a quicker development of new lines. The aim is to offer a wider range of articles to an expanding and very competitive segment of glassware market.

Environmental commitment

Vetreria di Borgonovo has always been sensitive towards environmental issues. Following this guideline, since the beginning of 2011, the Company has installed on the roof of his warehouses, a photovoltaic plant for the production of clean energy. With a significant exposure of 8000 square meters of solar panels, this is an authentic power station, with the power of 966 kW, and it can produce more than 1,1 GWh/ per year. The energy produced is totally used for the production process

European certifications

With the aspiration to a continuous improvement of the Process Quality and paying serious attention to evnvironmental issues, The Company has recently been certified ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 by an eminent european Auditor.

Moreover, The Company maintain the metrological certification of its items with gauge level, according to the European Directive 2014/32/UE (MID).

Borgoforte Brand

The brand Borgoforte identifies those products, within the Borgonovo range, characterized by a particular mechanical resistance in the glassware’s usual weak positions: rim, stem and foot disc.

Referring to the goblets, the evaluations are based on objective benchmarks (i.e. the stem is laboratory tested to withstand pressure up to 2.6 Joule). The products are tested both at the internal Quality Control Laboratory and at external laboratories. These results are achieved through our manufacturing process by producing the complete goblet in one forming process only. In this way, we obtain a monolithic product, without critical positions where the glass stresses are usually located. Consequently, our stemware resists more to shocks and stresses both on the rim and on the foot. The Glass Experimental Laboratory in Murano has been commissioned by us for a huge range of tests. Using proper tooling and mathematical models, those tests have demonstrated that the frequency of the breakages in our stemware is 30% less than in the product manufactured with the traditional forming process. Basing on all these arguments, the Borgoforte products offer themselves to the operators of the Hospitality sector, as practical, reliable and long-lasting work tools.
